Meaningful Monday Message

The Other Side of the Rope

A young filly taught me something I’ll remember for a long time.

  • The rope marked the boundary.
  • The consequences made the choices clear.
  • But trust was built through patience, consistency, and the freedom to learn.
  • And that’s how we move from compliance toward commitment.

Ask yourself:

  1. Am I simply trying to get them to do what I want—or am I helping them become someone who can confidently choose what’s right?”
  2. Where might I need to establish a clearer boundary, offer a better choice, or simply release some pressure?

The ultimate measure of our leadership isn’t how well people comply when we’re watching. It’s the character, confidence, and trust they develop that guide their choices when we’re not.

“A boundary may influence a choice, but character is what guides the choice when the boundary is no longer enforced.”
